Scouting Reports: Gabe York&Reggie Johnson
GABE YORK
Position: Guard
Born: August 2, 1993
Nat: USA
Height: 6'3'’
Weight: 188 lbs
Current Team: Strasbourg
Collage: Arizona
Why am I writing about him?
Gabe York might seem a little undersize at first glance. But the core strength he has, the on/off ball offensive pack and the defensive effort are valuable.
I think;
First words
He’s an amazing shooter. The stability of the shot, the level of driblble, the timing and angle of the shot mechanism are impressive. The defense is bad. But the effort is good.
Offense
A reliable shooter. Has a high shooting ability in both catch&shoot and dribble from three-point line and mid-ranges. When he is one-on-one in the on ball game, after a single dribble, he takes a step back pull up three. Unlike his physique, he is a good athlete. Fast, explosive and very fluid. Core power can be the main source of these three elements. So fast in the open floor with the ball. Great body control. Fearless driver. Good touch on floater. Loves to split the hedge on a high screen to get into the restricted area. Natural ability to create offense. Bad decision making mechanism. Average ball handling and passing. Bad rebounder.
Defense
On defense one thing’s good, effort. Really. High effort and press but not enough fort he four-star defense. Can’t fight with physical guards, so sometimes can be pestered turnovers. Lacks average perimete defender, rim protector, and switch.
Physic
The main question about Gabe York is his size. Undersize but his core strength is incredible. It works a lot in some games, but sometimes it can cause problems. Lower body’s fine, actually. Shoulder and chest width are questionable.
Last words
Gabe York. He has the heart to give everything to the team. His defense is questionable, physique is interesting but his offense and work ethic I think abeyond everything. He can be the team’s best scorer if he plays with a good ball handler guard and high size SF.
REGGIE JOHNSON
Position: Guard
Born: May 7, 1994
Nat: USA
Height: 6'3'’
Weight: 190 lbs
Current Team: Zalakeramia
Collage: Hampton
Why am I writing about him?
Despite his average shot performance, his creative methods of scoring and his ball movement are impressive.
I think;
First words
Precocious guard with high basketball IQ, speed, smooth athleticisim, and agility.
Offense
Great on the in&out dribble. Very dangerous in the open floor thanks to his quickness and leaping. Has great game feeling with natural leadership. Almost, has great footwork. Good decision maker. Very fluid and smooth athlete (sometimes explosive). Great finisher on top zone. Good operator in pick&roll and pick&pop games. Wide court vision. Good balance, change direction, and layup IQ. Ball-handling abilities are good. Great imagination and creativity. Effective on off ball games, specially for chin line sets. Average rebounder. Average shooter. So here we are. It’s the most complicated. He has high self-confidence in shots, but footwork and angle are problematic in the shot mechanism. I bet on his mid-range pull up, but threes… Not terrible, but just a few low level below the ideal for the guard. Execept that, all off scoring.
Defense
Engine is always work. Length and lateral quickness are high. Good on ball defender. Can guard PG, SG, and SF. Not a good rim protector but great perimeter defender. Needs to develop a better density level at the off defensive. Almost great on game reading and timing. Soft hands.
Last words
You might want to gamble on his shot. Because it’s not too late to improve. Also his remaining attributes are not bad for a leading PG; not only is his scoring leadership impressive, also his defensive performance/engine and ball movement, quickness, screen games etc. in the offensive pack impressive. His defos are closed with a catch&shooter, a stretch forward and good rebounder C.
