I’m Kuzey, 19. I’ve been writing about basketball since I was 9. I have been working in Eurosport Turkey for the last 1,5 years. I have written on various sites and magazines before. I’ve been working as a freelance scout for three years. I worked as a consultant. I have interviewed dozens of prospects such as Theo Maledon, Deni Avdija, Henri Drell, Aleksej Pokusevski, Arturs Kurucs, Yves Pons, and dozens of notable basketball people such as Luis Scola, Xavi Pascual, Jonathan Givony, Dimitris Itoudis, Sasa Obradovic, Joan Plaza, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Derrick Williams. I write an article every day. I live in Turkey, I go to all the Euroleague and Youth League games. My main areas are all of age group in Africa and from U12 to U20 European and NCAA. Anyway, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and feel free to DM!

AFRICAN PROJECT

The 2020 NBA Draft is over. Y E S. Wish luck to Deni Avdija, Killian Hayes, Theo Maledon and all prospects! So, here is your solid international prospect watch list before the 2021 NBA Draft. This is just my thought, not overall. Last note, I will write deep reports for all these and more prospects. So, nothing “deep to deep”, just a brief look to 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 generations (yes, I know, not all prospects, I selected). Enjoy. By the way, this is not a ranking.

Georgios Kalaitzakis

Team: Panathinaikos
Born: January 2, 1999
Position: F
Height: 6'7'’
Wingspan: 6'10'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A long and good-sized wing with average scoring instincts and good court vision. Agile and mobile but has not any tricks, typical European athlete. Was an effective scorer and passer last year in Nevezis but this year has a minor role in Panathinaikos. Has smooth and refined finishes around the basket. Can use both hands effectively. Not excellent in traffic due to lack of elite leap and aggressiveness. Has pretty nice court vision and solid ballhandling skills, shows great passing ability in transition plays and to the weak side plays, also, good at pushing off the glass. Inconsistent shooter behind the 3-points line and has not any mid-range threat. But possesses the tools and the upside to improve that with time and reps. Loves his high dribble and scoring ability under the basket in off the ball motions with BBIQ but should add some killing scoring options to his arsenal.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

BBIQ, willingness and awareness make up for his lack of elite athleticism in man-on-man defensive plays. Shows excellent body positioning and activeness but easy to pass him in isolation situations. Sees things early to help, runs very well around the passing lanes and uses his length excellent to make steal or deflection. Has the potential to be a positional defender but has not many flashes where he guarding PGs, SGs or Cs. Has good rebounding instincts and showing excellent anticipation and awareness around the basket.

Jurij Macura

Team: Sixt Primorska
Born: December 23, 1999
Position: PF
Height: 6'9'’
Wingspan: 6'10'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A mobile, active, energetic big man who comes to the table with a versatile offensive arsenal. Can drive to the basket (usually to his left), play as a catch-and-finisher with nice solid touch post-up scoring, interior BBIQ, left-hand touch, and quickness. However, cannot define him as a star prospect offensively. Because for the first time ever, he can show off this excellent offensive pack. He was a below-average player in the past seasons. The biggest rooms to improve on the offensive end about shooting consistency, court vision, and awareness (can be careless). Also, should add some footwork tricks to be a more efficient scorer in PnR situations.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Lacks explosiveness hurt him on the rebounding side but willing to grab the ball and make the play. Good instincts but should add some explosiveness. Cannot defender stronger bigs and quicker forwards. Because he has not good hip mobility and change of direction ability. Can protect the rim and contest the shot very well with his length and BBIQ. Should add some aggressiveness to be more energetic on the glass.

***

Arnas Velicka

Team: Chalons-Reims
Born: December 10
Position: G
Height: 6'4'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has a nice size for his position. Has good strength for his size but still has room to fill the upper body. Also, can have length problems at the NBA level. Not an elite athlete but make up for it by using first step, body coordination, lateral movement and quickness. A decent shooter who hit threes in CnS and spot up situations, operates his shots with good release, arc, timing and BBIQ, Velicka can fill the transitions quickly, has a good court vision but not an excellent passer, just a solid playmaker with some d&k and baseline entry passes. Not a handler who can play with shiftiness or creativeness but knows how to protect the ball in one-on-one situations.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has a lot of room to improve on the defensive end. Has not any ability to defend PnR situations because he cannot fight through the screens, also the same for off the ball defense. Very quick and smart in closeouts. Knows the rotations and arcs. But overall, he is a below the average defender.

***

Philipp Herkenhoff

Team: Rasta Vechta
Born: June 29, 1999
Position: PF
Height: 6'11'’
Wingspan: 7'1'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has the potential to be a good rotation player at the NBA level with his shooting threat, attacking closeouts ability, excellent fluidness and above the average BBIQ. However, not a consistent shooter, but there is an important note: Has been improving in the last three years very well to hit the ball from behind the 3-points line. If he can constantly hit around 35% from downtown in four attempts per game, the sky is the limit for him. Solid ballhandler who knows use the body as a shield with excellent game feelings. Not a good passer, has not good court vision, and post-up offense ability. However, an important prospect because can hit the ball and attack closeouts very well (good right-hand touch with a little bit softness, nice first step but not explosive, not a crash the board player, the defensive explosiveness in the NBA, will dislodge around the rim)

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He spends his good time on the defensive end hedging the PnR where he puts in the effort, slides around the baseline where his hands always in the air and talks with the others. But that’s it. Cannot protect the rim. Due to lack of elite strength and explosive athleticism, can be dislodged easily by the drivers. Also, not a good rebounder yet and to be clear, I cannot see a good future in this case for him. Should work a lot on the defensive end.

He reminds me Dragan Bender from every angle but we are in 2020, so we have not that “big and can shoot the ball, let’s pick him in the first 10 picks” era. But still, an important prospect because really has a good upside to be a rotation player with versatility offense and shooting ability.

Carlos Alocen

Team: Real Madrid
Born: December 30, 2000
Position: PG
Height: 6'5’
Wingspan: 6'6'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Smart, very smart point guard with excellent court vision, passing arsenal and crafty ballhandling ability. He is able to scan the defense, flashing tremendous court vision and natural creativity. Plays very comfortable pace with the ball, gives gliding a lot. Dangerous in transition situations where he is dynamic as a primary ballhandler and forces defenses to commit. Very good job on make money by using floaters, runners and leaners. Soft touch but lack of strength hurt him as a finisher generally. Inconsistent long-range shooter with solid form — should a little bit faster, needs better shot pocket. Nice scorer off the dribble, decent mid-range shooter, excellent rebounder for his size thanks to his BBIQ and game vision. Can be too much careless on the offensive end and this allows turnovers.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has instinctual anticipation on the defensive end. Sees passing lanes. Very good peskiness in one-on-one situations but lack of elite athleticism ability limits him as a defender overall. Because cannot guard the ballhandler when the ballhandler starts to drive to make money. Needs to be a tougher defender, sometimes gives lackluster effort

***

Arturs Kurucs

Team: Baskonia
Born: January 19, 2000
Position: SG
Height: 6'3’
Wingspan: 6'5’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A lethal shooter with terrific range and versatility. Text book shooting form. Shows a consistent stroke with good mechanics on his jumper, releasing the ball off his finger with great ease in one silky-smooth motion. Has good footwork, squares his shoulders and feet to the basket, bends all his body very well. Understands how to move without the ball. Average game vision and passing ability but not good overall. Should add a lot of athleticism skills. Nice soft touch on floaters but cannot create these floaters generally. Not a major ballhandler or playmaker but good role player with excellent shooting threat.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has prototypical defensive tools for a shooting guard. Good awareness on the perimeter and despite lack of elite size and frame good awareness on the interior. When he guards the ballhandler, he always reads the ballhandler’s footwork. Uses his BBIQ, timing and body coordination to make the correct move. He sets-up his footwork very well and reacts very well to against the ballhandlers behind the 3-points line. However, when the ballhandlers start to drive, he out of control. Good laterally but lack of elite athleticism, footwork and length hurt his stock here.

***

Nikita Mihailovskii

Team: Avtador
Born: September 10, 2000
Position: F
Height: 6'7’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Excellent shooter and able to create his own shot from a variety of places on the court, adept at changing speeds. Has not deep vision for the game but see the floor overall and willing passer. Can stretch the floor, has a high release on his shot. BBIQ is of the charts in off the ball motions. Excellent scorer after cuts or body fakes. Not a good slasher, struggles to attack the rim, not an elite ballhandler can be TO prone sometimes.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Just motor and size make him an average defender. Active in passing lanes but that’s it. Should work a lot on the defensive end this limits him his NBA projection in my opinion.

***

Dalibor Ilic

Team: Igokea
Born: March 4, 2000
Position: SF
Height: 6'9’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Athletic combo forward with an intriguing skill-set. olid size for either forward position. Solid interior scorer, good and smart touch under the basket both as a catch and finisher, creator and dunker spot man. Not good to drive the basket but showed some good first step ability. Shows excellent BBQI and movement in off the ball situations. Aware and active always. Has to add more explosive moves. Needs to improve his shooting in all terms.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Tough to score against him and has the potential to be an even better defender with added experience but not thanks to his rim protection. Has active hands, disrupts the offense a lot, has excellent positioning IQ, sees things and talks with others. Knows how to use his frame to close the drive angles, not easy to drive against him. But should add some blocking ability. Can be undisciplined defensively but not prone on this issue.

***

Rokas Jokubaitis

Team: Zalgiris
Born: November 19, 2000
Position: PG
Height: 6'4’
Wingspan: 6'5.5

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A decent scorer from all three levels. Does his best work on the offensive and as a mid-range creator and 3-points spot-up shooter. He can create his shots around mid-range after one dribble or two dribble or burst fakes dribble. He can stay balanced even in traffic around the basket with using his upper body strength, popping well and finding mid-range hit. His refined footwork allows him to create separation for a jumper. Also, he improved a lot to attack the basket but still has some dribbling and handling problems. As a passer and dribbler, he is not good or not bad in my opinion. Sometimes he showed that he excels at staying in control under pressure and maintaining a live dribble in isolation or pick and roll situations but also made very simple turnovers. He can make pocket pass, read-and-react pass, and kick out but not consistent. Needs work on his court vision and full-court dribble in my opinion.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He is pesky in the passing lanes with using his strength, active hands, refined footwork and solid stance in my opinion. Covering the pick-and-roll situations well thanks to his game reading ability but needs work here. He struggles in keeping up against quicker point guards and stronger forwards naturally. He fights screens but not very good at passing them. He’s not doing unnecessary help defending, not bad on rotates, and his team awareness is average, but his skill-set on the defensive in general, what he can do is not enough to make him a good off the ball defender or painted area guard.

***

Vrenz Bleijenbergh

Team: Antwerp
Born: October 14, 2000
Position: SF
Height: 6'9’’
Wingspan: 7'0'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Excellent size and improved a lot in terms of strength. Has great body coordination, good laterally and linearly, can run on full court in four seconds both with the ball or without the ball, has an impressive first step, has excellent change direction ability both on the ground and in the air. However, lack of vertical pop, some aggressive around the rim athleticism hurt him. He is a great attacker to the rim, can finish around the basket with some tricks, quick in open court, has a crafty Euro step, a deceptive ballhandling to create his pull up from mid-range. He is not a good shooter yet, but solid mechanics present the possibility of improvement behind the 3-points line as a catch-and-shooter and around mid-range as a shot creator with one/two dribble jumper.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He has a good BBIQ positionally, knows how to protect his team’s defensive shell, and rotates correctly. He covers a ton of ground, shows good quickness sliding on the perimeter, and regularly picks the pocket against ballhandlers. My concern about his team defense ability is actually about off the ball defense. I mean, when he is off the ball, he sometimes watches the ball a lot, gives a natural reaction, but in the meantime, he creates a very clear spacing for his own man. I think he should increase his awareness a little more. Coming with a lot of deflections around the baseline, perimeter and in transition situations, is a good perimeter and on the ball defender with great intensity. Not a good pick-and-roll defender. He has the quickness to get over the top but can get lazy sometimes and he is not someone who can run around the screens well.

***

Henri Drell

Team: Pesaro
Born: April25, 2000
Position: SF
Height: 6'9’’
Wingspan: 7'0'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Good size but should fill a lot. He can play multiple positions with his good size and length. He uses his size to attack the basket with floaters, short jumpers, dazzling dunks, and lobs. He can create his own shot off the dribble and I think his shooting form is smooth. Showed some flashes on CnS, movement and jumpers but Drell is not a shooter who can create spacing with hit threat. He needs to work on his shoot. Not a crafty or shifty ballhandler and driver but solid and knows the angles well. Would like to see him more in PnR/P situations and has this potential to stretch the floor.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Drell knows very well how to use his physical tools on defense. Drell is reading the ISO situations well and moving laterally and his hands are very fast when he moves to the ball. The important thing here is that he can do this without going into a foul problem. HD is not someone who can follow his man well during off-ball motions. He is not someone you want to move around screens. Drell is not a defender you will want to use after the switch. Although he shows some things about protecting rim, inconsistency and lack of elite vertical pop hurt him.

***

Arturs Zagars

Team: Joventut
Born: April 21, 2000
Position: PG
Height: 6'3'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

The physical tools and athletic ability limit his NBA projection because really undersized. His court vision and ability to deliver precise passes make him the ultimate distributor for every team in the world. Very impressive to maintaining his composure when operating in the pick and roll. Does not have any panic or like that thing. Shows patience, sees what the defense does and reacts well, waits to make his reads. Usually split the hedge on the top of the key screen to get into the nail. Has a good repertoire of moves off the dribble. Knows how to operate head, pass and shot fakes to the defense off balance. Not a great scorer generally but has upside. His shot improved significantly but still needs some adjustments.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Plays with a lot of energy and shows his anticipation, that anticipation allows him to get his hands on a lot of balls, active in passing lanes, quick eye-hand coordination and does a pretty nice job to start the offense after steal the ball. However, he is a limited defender due to physical tools.

***

Ismael Kamagate

Team: Paris
Born: Jaunary 1, 2001
Position: C
Height: 6'11'’
Wingspan: 7'4'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Excellent size and frame even for the NBA levels. Explosive athlete but also has a little bit of shiftiness as a dunker spot man. As a great interior catch-and-finish scorer, post-up player, and average lob target, he does his best jobs on the offensive end around the basket. He frequently operates one-on-one in the post. Shows a lot of great things here in my opinion. I mean, While playing post offense, he demonstrated that he can outperform defenders of all styles. More efficient in the right post zone than in the left post zone. With short hooks, reverse spins and hip turns tricks, he can use rim perfectly while showing good hop, leap ability. So can use the net part of the rim for the score after the second step. He can prepare his post-up plays very well and quick with taking contact, leg tricks. He also does good job with his effort level changing ends, moving off the ball, and crashing the traps. He is not a great pick-and-roll roller yet, has to learn play as a roller in my opinion. He is a good interior catch-and-finish scorer, drive-and-dish target. Can play good as a back-to-the-basket player but needs to improve his face-up game in my opinion. Can stretch the floor with his off the ball motions on the offensive end but for more, he has to add shooting weapon his arsenal.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A physical defender, he does much of his best work on the defensive end protecting the painted area. HE is not an excellent rim protector and not a good switch defender, but despite being 6-foot-11 and having the physical tools like a classical, old-school European big, he is versatile on the defensive end. He can put pressure on the shooters, defend them with his good wingspan and lateral movement, not giving them a good shooting angle. In pick-and-roll games, while sliding over the handler over the roller, he can use his body and close the first dribble area of his opponent, not giving the opponent the chance to hop or one-dribble pull up chances. He cannot do well against moving and quick guards, cannot defend the burst technique, but he has a good switch potential in general. I think he understands, reads, and reacts well to the game. He uses his BBIQ against post-up offense. Also, he can use well his body and his balance in vertical jumps. In off the ball motions, he sometimes makes unnecessary help defense, leaves his own man open, he needs to develop in this in my opinion.

***

Tarık Biberovic

Team: Fenerbahce
Born: January 28, 2001
Position: SG-F
Height: 6'6'’- Wingspan: 6'9'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Strong and good length overall. The best part of his game on the offensive end his shooting in my opinion. So, Biberović’s game mostly revolves around spotting up for the 3-pointers, but also, he is able to create his own shot off the dribble, reading what the defense gives. While doing it, Biberović moves very well without the ball, finding great angle/spacing in his opponent’s defense. He isn’t the quickest shooter in the world but I think even for the NBA standards, his shooting form makes him a very valuable shooter. Biberović has a very nice shooting form with decent speed in his release. His high extension, quick and parallel footwork and release making it difficult for most players to contest or block his shot. Considering his shooting form and that he hasn’t found consistent playing time at the highest levels of competition, which can affect his rhythm as a shooter, I believe that Biberović can develop into a good “screen the screener”, off-the-ball and movement shooter. As a dribbler and passer he’s shown some early signs of future development. I think Biberović is an unselfish passer whose size, craftiness, and ability to play at different speeds give him budding ability as a playmaker. The Bosnian prospect is a capable driver with either hand, with a good handle and a strong body, and does not shy away from contact in my opinion. Showed that he is a good drive-and-dish type passer. He can dribble his left well than his right. However, I have some question marks here. When Biberović brings the ball up the court, he can commit simple TOs against pressure, also sometimes forcing the passes too much. He’s also prone to unnecessary passes as a driver when he has clear space to attempt floaters. He must be a little more confident and learn to use his physical tools to create a shield around the ball. He has a high sense of play, high team awareness, but sometimes he seems to have very low energy while creating his own score.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Tarik Biberović is not the strongest nor the best defender of the team, he has a lot of room for improvement as an interior defender. But this kid’s game concentration, energy and team awareness always remains consistent. I said he should learn to use his own physical tools on the offensive end, but I think the same is not true on the defense. Because I think that Biberović uses his body, active hands, BBIQ, body coordination well around the perimeter and the three-point line when defending PGs, SGs, and SFs. He’s aggressive and focused on that end. Like said earlier, I think he has room to improve as an athlete, which could unlock a new level as a defender like his lateral quickness in stopping penetration. Most important, however, is him improving his instincts as a help defender, as he’s prone to coming from the help-side in positions where his teammate can easily cover, which leaves his own man in the open. He also sometimes makes simple fouls due to his lack of experience.

Amar Sylla

Team: Oostende
Born: January 10, 2001
Position: F
Height: 6'8’- Wingspan: 7'2'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Strong and above the average athlete. Shows some flashes of explosive offensive ability, especially when he cut from the corners. Excellent as an open court ballhandler but not too great when things come half-court game as a dribbler. Should add some solid handling but reliable in short DHO situations. Interior scoring is good, usually finishes with the right hand but also can use the left. Good hustle plays, transition dunks and dribble drive to the rim. Not good on shooting. Has shown his ability to hit the ball as a catch-and-shooter but inconsistent always.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has elite tools and athleticism to be a versatile defender in the NBA. Excellent quickness in feet, good linearly, vertically, and laterally but should add soma awareness and anticipations. Not a defensive anchor but a good weak-side shot blocker and will become a more effective rim protector if he can add more strength.

***

Mario Nakic

Team: Oostende
Born: June 14, 2001
Position: F
Height: 6'6’’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He does most of his work in pick-and-roll situations. Has pretty nice constant speed changes and is an above the average slasher with the burst, change direction and vision for the game. Has not the best decision making mechanism in the world but showed some smart choices as a slasher. Knows the angles and usually splits the double teams, hedges, etc. Willing passer but not someone who can create different by his passing. Shifty and crafty ballhandler but I would not define him as a hot handler, solid usually. He can make a shot off the dribble, showing decent footwork on pull-ups but hit rate comes and goes at the time because of his shot selection and release. Should add better athleticism (quickness first) and should be smarter to make good things in the NBA level.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Never tasked with defending and usually did something with team harmony. Smart defender, sees things and is very active in the passing lanes. Knows where to be to get steals and deflections and pretty solid in these situations. Does not play gamble generally. However, lack of elite athleticism tools limits him as a defender, especially, lack of quickness and lateral movement hurt him.

***

Tom Digbeu

Team: Prienu
Born: September 24, 2001
Position: G
Height: 6'5’’

Wingspan: 6'8'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He is an excellent athlete to get to the rim. Quick first step, change direction ability both on the ground and in the air and solid ballhandling allow him to exploit closeouts and attack to the basket dominantly. Not shifty but quickness and smoothness with a little bit of explosiveness work very well to get him to the line generally. Nice hesitations and very good at live dribble situations but sometimes can be too careless. Reliable finisher with a high arc and solid touch. Knows how to use his body to make money through contact and in traffic. Not a good passer but his slashing ability allows him a lot of drive-and-kick situations and he usually uses if the defensive line prepares for him. However, not good to make the play in stationary or low tempo. Not good as a shooter but still improve in this issue. His improving curve as a shooter will be a red line about his NBA projection..

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Engaged, high-level motor defender. Can guard the first three positions. Can stay in front of both point guards and smaller fours. Wants to make pesky defense and while doing it, uses his eye-hand coordination, footwork, BBIQ and aggressiveness, also, body control. Has the tools to be an excellent perimeter defender but not too great in this issue. Decent defender overall but would like to see him at least BCL level to say something clearly.

***

Roko Prkacin

Team: Cibona
Born: November 26, 2002
Position: F-C
Height: 6'9'’
Wingspan: 7'1'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Impressive tools and improved a lot in terms of gain strength. A smooth, explosive athlete and talented combo forward with a deep skill-set. Excellent flashes as a self-creator, can drive to the basket easily. Understand the game very well, sees things and attacks to the basket quickly. A good passer with court vision. Can handle the ball and can guide the team as a 17 years old captain. Has a combination of shiftiness, burst, elite first step and awareness while attacks to the basket. Not an elite shooter but an improvement curve on the table. The best prospect from the 2002 class on my board.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Showing great timing and physicality on the defensive end, Roko Prkacin makes the most of his skills getting to spots early, cleaning the glass quickly, and making offensive players pay for exposing the ball. Does a great job shooting zones to get in the passing lanes, has ability to be defensive anchor but lack of elite rim protection and consistent switchability hurt him.

***

Usman Garuba

Team: Real Madrid
Born: March 9, 2002
Position: F
Height: 6'8'’
Wingspan: 7'2'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Gifted athlete and has amazing tools physically. Very explosive and smooth both on the offensive end and on the defensive end. He is also a powerful athlete with enough agility to slide on the perimeter defensively. Has off the ball role on the offensive end for the Real, he does amazing job as a catch and finisher. Does much of his best work at the rim where his athleticism helped him make an impact filling lanes in transition, crashing the offensive glass, and finishing lobs. He has a good motor and provides multiple efforts on both backboards. He has great hands. Should work on dribbling, shooting (improvement still here) and passing.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Having some impressive moments contesting shots, switching onto guards, and blocking shots, Woodard checks a lot of boxes defensively. His combination of strength, length, and mobility made him a difference maker even in the Euroleague. With a terrific combination of length, athleticism, and energy, he is an excellent rebounder who regularly goes outside of his area to pursue the ball. An amazing threat on the defensive end with all weapons… But should add more flexibility in switch situations.

***

Juhann Begarin

Team: Paris Basketball
Born: August 7, 2002
Position: SG
Height: 6'6'’
Wingspan: 7'0'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Doing a bit of everything on the offensive end, the freakish athlete does his best contributions applying his physical tools in transition and on the offensive glass. Has all around self-creation package, Juhann has a perfect lob threat and can move very fast with the ball and do dominant dunks when playing on the ball offense in hill or transition. His first step is strong and solid, giving him momentum. Bégarin can create a shield around the ball while changing direction both in the air and on the ground. He can play above the rim, finish in traffic, and he knows how to show some tricks like hooks, reverse spins, hip fakes alongside his footwork. But there is a question mark in my head. Bégarin has a dazzling athlectisim package, but when the game is played at a slow pace in the half-court, he has trouble getting past his opponent with the dribble. He’s not losing the ball, but forcing the game and staying behind in some contact positions is a huge question mark. I mean, Bégarin becomes an ineffective player when he can’t find momentum and plays at a slow pace. Also, he is not an off the ball slashes-cutter. The biggest thing I haven’t said anything clear about it is JB’s shooting. Bégarin was a good shooter in 2018. His volume was average but his hit rate was high, but he was a bad shooter in every sense in 2019. From the left corner, he showed good things as a catch-and-shooter, but the lack of smoothness, solidness, and weird set point hurt his consistency in my opinion. Bégarin is able to create his shot around mid-range, and he has shown he can do well with one dribble pull-up shot, but he has general inconsistency. He has room on that.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Bégarin’s BBIQ, pro basketball genes, high-level motor, and athlectisim package make up for his lack of elite man-on-man defensive plays in my opinion. Bégarin sees actions early to help, running through passing lanes well with good timing, showing great active and coordinated eye-hand sequences. With a decent defensive stance and potential switchability, Bégarin is fearless on the ball defender. He can stay in front of against guards thanks to his quick hands, can stay in front of against forwards, and stretch bigs thanks to his elite athlectisim and good size. However, at the end of the day, he has room to be consistent on the ball defender in my opinion. The explosive player showed some flashes put pressure on shooters both catch-and-shoot and self-creating shoot situations but can’t guarding those players on the dribble, floater, and Pick’n Roll games. Lack of balance and experience hurt his stock here. Yeah, Bégarin has a good experience thanks to his adventures on LNB pro leagues, but he is just an 18 years-old player, so, still improving process. A shot-blocking presence on the ball and/or as a help-side defender. Good off the ball defender thanks to his quickness and linear, lateral, vertical pop moves. Good transition defender with wide steps, court vision, and quick moves. Average team defender in my opinion. Bégarin is not a defensive playmaker or like that but knows how to rotate to protect the defensive shield of the team. Not a great defender on closeouts, sometimes give bad reacts, very bad reacts against pump fakes. Knows close his opponent’s rim angle but can’t do it consistently. A quick jumper and an engaged and competitive rebounder, Juhann pursues the ball with energy, especially on the offensive end.

Born: March 21, 2002
Position: G
Height: 6'4'’
Wingspan: 6'5'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has room to improve physically but has the potential to be good because of his basketball genes, but again, should put in the work. Has good BBIQ and is smooth guard who never seems to get rattled or rushed into making mistakes. His vision and passing ability are very intriguing with excellent decision making. Can operate the PnRs like a maestro. Has a lot of tricks in his passing package. Makes everything look easy. Does good at creating shots in the midrange with a nasty handle but not a crossover guy a lot. Usually uses his vision, feeling and BBIQ. Solid finisher and creator but lack of strength hurt his drive to the basket ability. Should add strength to be better scorer, and also, his shooting consistency will determine his projection. Not a good 3-points shooter, not too bad but still needs some adjustments in his form. Not a bigtime athlete.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Needs to develop a better intensity level at the defensive end but his BBIQ, vision, anticipation and high-motor make him a good defender but limited due to a lack of elite physical tools.

Boris Tisma

Team: Real Madrid
Born: February 20, 2002
Position: F
Height: 6'9'’
Wingspan: 6'11.5'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Tisma’s game mostly revolves around spotting up for the 3-pointer/mid-range, pick-and-roll handler as a physical and aggressive scorer and finds buckets as an off-ball motion player. He is not a shooter who can create his shot consistently but showed 11 times this at the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championship. He usually hit the 3-pointers from the left corner and left-wing as a spot-up shooter. Has a smooth shooting mechanics, Tisma’s release, timing, confidence, quickness and footwork are great. However, he needs mentality, balance, angle and court vision as a shooter. I mean, some positions he tries unnecessary shots. Balance, angle, and court vision are almost absent in those shots. Tisma has confidence, has consistency, but if he wants to be a dangerous shooter at top levels, I think has to have a smart shooting mentality without showing his opponent a defect. On the other hand about his shooting, needs to improve the short-range. I mean, he has not last soft touch and elite athlectisim tools — as I said. He knows how to create short-range shots but can’t finish because of a lack of last touch. The Croatian prospect can score in the post, showing nice spin moves and hooks. As a post player, he usually attacks from the left side of the court. A great cutter — backdoor cuts, ATOs, side out of bounds plays and slips — showing nice offensive awarenesses, knows how to create spacing as a cutter and often finishes aggressively around the basket. Has a lot of room to be a good transition player. He has quickness, showed some dunks, also, showed trailer plays but not too much. Needs this skill-set in my opinion. Boris Tisma drives his left better than his right. Has slow but powerful first step. As a pick-and-roll handler, I think Tisma knows to give screen fakes against his opponents. I mean, he is not a classical PnR handler, thanks to his length and great handling for his length, Tisma uses the screen, drives in the free channel and finishes around the basket aggressively. In my opinion, he needs a lot of things on his passing package. I know, usually, you don’t wait for a good passing package from a 6-foot-9 player, but considering Tisma’s game features, I think he has to be better at passing. Because in this way, he may evaluate his gravity effect not only as a scorer but also in every sense.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

When I think of players born between 2000 and 2004, Boris Tisma is one of the most interesting players in the defense pack based on his physical tools. I mean, you expect someone who is 6-foot-9 to have a good defense around the rim, read the pick-and-rolls well, and play with an explosive but Tisma puts pressure on shooters like 6-foot-4 guards and follows his man perfectly in off-ball motions. However, he not good against quick guards, also not a good defender around the rim. In my opinion, BT’s mobility, length, lateral quickness, BBIQ (reads and reacts) and defensive awareness like offense allows him to be a good defender against shooters who covers pick and roll situations well. In off-ball motions, after running around the screens with good timing and speed, he uses his hand length and BBIQ to cover the angle of the shooters and does pesky defense. He puts good timing pressure on the roller in pick-and-roll games, but after a minor mistake, he faces the handler and cannot defend him. He is good laterally but can improve his footwork to stay in front of quicker guards. His good length helps him play passing lanes aggressively. Despite not afraid of physical contact, Tisma is not a good rim protector. I think lack of elite vertical pop and strength hurt him here. As a competitive rebounder, Tisma pursues the ball with energy. Thanks to his good eye-hand coordination, Tisma sees something and moves on that well. I would like to see him around the hill as a defender. Because I think he can be more efficient there.

Josh Giddey

Team: Adelaide
Born: October 10, 2002
Position: G
Height: 6'7'’
Wingspan: 7'0'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Versatile all-around guard/forward who can do just about everything on the court. Possesses excellent physical tools and has room to fill nicely. Not a born leader but excels under pressure and BBIQ is off the charts, however, would like to see him in bigger competitions and probably we will see it this year. Not an excellent athlete but the first step, change direction and speed ability with quickness and BBIQ make up for him. Good ballhandler with a little bit of shiftiness. Can see the court, a good, very good passer with elite tricks. Not a maestro in PnRs yet but has that amazing potential. Pretty nice body control and balance on dribbles. He can drive to the basket from either side and finish to the basket with lay-ups, good both one-foot jump or two feet. Not a great shooter but still improve nicely.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Quick hands, excellent length, and game instincts in the passing lanes make him a threat for the opposite team on the defensive end. Really can be pesky sometimes but not too much. Usually good in the team harmony. Can guard multiple positions, shows physicality, has good sensitivity on his hands but again, higher competitions will be important to evaluate him better.

Ibou Badji

Team: Barcelona
Born: October 13, 2002
Position: C
Height: 7'1'’
Wingspan: 7'8'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Amazing physical tools with explosive athleticism and elite rim protection. Great finisher for his age. Badji does a pretty nice job his length to get close to the basket when his momentum is bringing him there. He finishes well in traffic, can finish against double teams and can finish through contact with either hand. His basket touch is soft. In my opinion, Badji has a good body coordination (he may lack a degree of eye-foot coordination because at the World Cup and some league matches, he missed a handful of dunks) and balance with solid first step, game IQ and stepping around defenses. He is very active around the offensive glass with a nice second jump and putbacks. Can finish with huge explosiveness. However, again, I have doubts about this issue from the window in the NBA. Badji is a hard finisher around the basket but can enter “Shaqtin ‘A Fool” when using his explosive against smart defenders in the NBA like Jonathan Isaac, Draymond Green, etc. So I think he should use his athleticism in a controlled and smarter way. He needs to learn fluency. I think Badji is fit post player for the NBA. He does a good job getting position and moving away from incoming double teams, though. In my opinion, Dianko has a good jabstep jumper after the defender bites. He has shown pretty nice footwork overall in the post with long layups. He can dunk after some post moves thanks to his size and strong frame. Nothing about shooting, good passing and solid ballhandling abilities.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

IDB is not as good a rim protector as Yannick Nzosa (2003), but he will probably be one of the top three rim protectors in the 2021 NBA Draft pool. Badji has good timing when contesting shots in the paint. Knows how to use his length and wingspan to protect the rim. He can sometimes swipe down on block attempts instead of going the normal way but Dianko generally does a great job using the rule of verticality to contest shots. He can chasedown blocks, also, his on-ball rim protection is good thanks to his quick hands and vertical pop (For example, 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup, Senegal vs. the USA, Badji blocked Cade at the first quarter, 04:34). I have big question marks from his PnR and off-ball defenses from the NBA window ..As I said, Badji is not a great player laterally. I think he sees the effect of this situation on defense most. Dianko is slow against fast and clever guards (2019 ANGT Valencia, Herbalife Gran Canaria, Jean Montero defense) and mobile pivots (2019 ANGT Valencia, Valencia Basket, Alonso Faure). He has a hard time defending the handler during PnR. Quickly passed. His hands are quick but that’s not enough. I think he is not good to use his physical tools wisely against bigs like Faure. Also, Badji is not someone I would want chasing players off screens. In my opinion, IDB has to improve on these issues because NBA’s modern era bigs are quicker. Also, NBA teams are using more screen motions with the pick to pick. However, shows flashes about takes bad angles giving ballhandler an area to attack. Smart team defender. I mean he has good communication with his team. I like his on ball and post defenses. He has a strong base and a strong upper body with room to grow. Flashed ability to defend bigs in space who are can shoot, play post up, and play with huge explosiveness. He has a pretty nice post up defense technique, I mean, he knows how to use his hands and feet as leverage. Also, his strong upper body and long arms help him about post up player’s angle.

Emil Stoilov

Team: Estudiantes

Born: February 7, 2002
Position: C
Height: 6'11’
Wingspan: 7'1'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Emil Stoilov’s best weapon on the offensive end is his scoring ability in post-up games. The right-handed Bulgarian has soft touch in the paint. When he turns to the basket over his left shoulder, he unstoppable in his class. Using very well his left shoulder turns in post-up games. Stoilov does a great job using his impressive size and frame against smaller players, also, against aggressive shot blockers. For example, let’s say he playing against a 7-foot rim protector who was born in 2001. Stoilov sets up spin moves, uses his fluid hip mobility, gives Rondo fake (I’m serious, he can do that…) or turn fake, drop sets and finishes position with nice last touch. His last touch is fluid, soft but if he plays post-up a little bit far from the basket, he knows how to use glass to increase the momentum of the ball. Stoilov does a good job on pass the ball, see the open man when he has the double-team. Sometimes, he forces the post-up situations against a great post-up defender but I don’t think he is a selfish, forcing the game player. His fluidity and BBIQ (he reads his defender’s footwork and reacts after that…) make him a modern-era post-up player. Last note, he has face-up ability going forward due to long hook ability and skills to see his team’s movement. As I said, he has soft touch under the basket. Can finish both hands, can finish in traffic, knows how to create a shield around the ball, has great body coordination to jump and do something, has good work and a quick hook release. However, his lack of pop and explosive finishing ability, aggressive athleticism hurt his finishing skill-set. Sometimes he has trouble finishing dominantly and it’s hurt his self-confidence. Great off the ball offensive player. And I think Bulgaria NJT and Estudiantes youth team also have a share in this. I mean, Stoilov played this kind of set at off the ball motions on both teams: When he starts the position at the strong-side wing, 2 and 4 on the weak-side are playing screen the screener. The player who then out the screen, makes a backscreen for Stoilov, Stoilov uses his quickness and within a few seconds of taking the ball, he can return to the basket and find a bucket. Don’t forget that he is 6-foot-11 but can play this set behind the 3-points line. I don’t have words for his shooting ability. Has a lot of room to improve in all terms. Has not any shooting threat and shooting flashes. And this part is my biggest question mark about him. Will Stoilov has an average shooting threat? We don’t have enough flashes to analyze his shooting form. From his FTs, I just can write that his elbow angles and shot pocket looks good. But timing, release, footwork, hip momentum, energy transfer… All other things are bad in my opinion.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Emil Stoilov is a player who knows how to use his impressive physical tools on the defensive end. He is not a defensive playmaker or major defender but thanks to his ability to combine his BBIQ and physical tools, he is a good defender in my opinion. Emil Stoilov is a good rim protector but here is the first note: He is not an elite shot blocker. He usually protects the rim with his length, by press the ball, he can control his man and force him to expose the ball around the rim. Plays with nice rotations around the rim, talks with his teammates under the rim, uses his strong frame very well (if he guarding shifty/crafty ballhandler around the rim, Stoilov can stop the offensive player with using his wingspan and nice lateral movement) and has nice finger sensitivity. Also, I think Stoilov has good timing when contesting shots in the paint and his general quickness helps him here. However, lack of vertical pop limited his rim protection.

Ariel Hukporti

Team: Nevezis

Born: April 12, 2002
Position: C
Height: 7'0'’
Wingspan: 7'7'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

A dominant presence inside, he is an elite lob target who also plays very well in the post zone. When he gets the ball in the painted area, can decide in a short time, using his powerful first step, elite vertical pop, soft touch, and ability to change direction in the air while fluidly curving into the basket. Also, he can produce miscellaneous points in bunches when he’s dialed in. As a brutal post scorer, he is an excellent low-post scorer. He can do post moves like Embiid, draw foul while curling into the basket after the body coordination fake against his defender, he is not afraid of contact play, wants contact play, plays with aggression and physicality. His left step isn’t perfect, but his right step great; knows how to gain momentum. He can also take a step back while in post and create his own mid-range shot, but he’s not consistent. When he plays against a physical defender, he pushes positions too much, losing momentum for both his team and himself. There are also redundancies in these mid-range shots he tried. He uses mid-range shots that make his team lose rhythm in positions where he can pass very easily. I think he has to improve in this regard. It is nice that he is not afraid to play against pressure but the skill-set is not yet elite levels for that. The German prospect is unable to shield around the ball and lacks elite ballhandling, so he makes simple turnovers. Good on face-up play thanks to his combination of physical tools and aggressiveness but needs to improve his back-to-the-basket plays beside post. He showed some things on off-ball situations as a reliable, active catch and finish target and productive offensive rebounder. Good trailer player in transitions as I mentioned. Not a passer, showed some things on as a read&reacts passer but for now, has a lot of room to create for others with using his gravity.. As you guess, he hasn’t any deep-range or mid-three-point-range threat.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Hukporti showed some flashes to switch onto guards but he does his best job as a rim protector. With all the tools to be an elite defender, is a factor in the passing lanes, active on the glass and energetic as a rim protector. In my opinion, he is a smart team defender. He does a good job talking for his teammates if they are caught on a pick for a perimeter player going hill or along the perimeter. He knows the team defense rules like switching, timing … Does a pretty nice job on post defense. He reads his opponent game and reacts well to that. The German prospect is an average PnR defender. I think his game reading and wingspan help him to guard handler with quick hands, average lateral quickness and timing. He sometimes showed that his opponent was able to close dribble and shooting angles. Also, his active hands help him to get in the handler’s passing line. However, he can sometimes open too much, I mean, giving a dribble channel to the rim for the handler or roller. Needs to learn a balanced defense. I think his explosiveness gives him too energy, it’s good, but for the team defense, he has to play with synchronization.

Khalifa Diop

Team: Gran Canaria
Born: January 15, 2002
Position: C
Height: 6'11'’
Wingspan: 7'3'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has tremendous size for an 18-year old center at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan and an improved 235-pound frame. A dominant presence inside, Khalifa Diop is a great elite lob target but also he is a great catch-and-finishing and dunker-spot scorer in my opinion. Has the interior strength to battle other power forwards in the post, Khalifa showed pretty nice footwork on his post games. After taking the ball, Diop using his footwork, quick hips, and lateral movement to buckets, also, showed that he has BBIQ. I mean, he knows how to using pump, body, or eye fakes to create his hook spacing in the post in my opinion. As a catch-and-finisher, he has nice elevation from low to high in my opinion. I think that Diop has versatile rolling weapons: Roll-replace, flare, drag, early, late, pindown, stagger, chin line, SLOB target with great rolling timing, soft touch around the basket, ability to finish these rolling positions one or two hands, and one or two feet. As a shooter, he has a lot of room to get better. Showed nice flashes around the mid-range with a solid release, good timing, and vertical pop but it does not create any plus in my opinion. Has to add some 3-pointer threat on his own offensive arsenal in my opinion because Diop is not a great dunker-spot scorer like Ivica Zubac and not a great athlete like Sekou Doumbouya, Clint Capela. So if he wants to play consistently in the NBA, has to add at least one of these skills. Read-and-react passer, has high awareness on the offensive end, reliable downhill ballhandler, and has average court vision.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

I don’t want to use unnecessary things just to make the report long. I mean, showing great on the defensive end, Khalifa Diop’s physical tools, timing, and effort-level make him a good shot blocker, rim protector but also showed that he can defend in the post with using his BBIQ (sees his man’s footwork well, so, preparing his own stance with great reacts, has active and quick hands), solid stance, and length in my opinion. Showing pretty nice mobility stepping out to slide around the perimeter, fighting for position around the basket, and using verticality well on occasion, Khalifa Diop’s defensive awareness is good. He sees things early and talking with his teammates to block the passing lanes, block the opponent’s trick offense. Not a great off the ball motions, switch, and transition defender in my opinion. Knows how to switching but lack of elite body defensively, and lack of elite footwork against quick players hurt his stock here in my opinion. I think Diop has the potential to be a pesky defender on shooters thanks to his vertical pop and length but needs to learn runs around the screens with good timing. I think Diop is not an excellent rebounder, but average on both ends.

Zsombor Maronka

Team: Joventut
Born: September 10, 2002
Position: F-C
Height: 6'10'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Quick laterally for his physical measurements with smooth and pretty quick hips. Covers ground well. Good frame. Gets off the court pretty quickly but limited. Can finish both hands. Does a pretty nice job getting the ball up quickly. Good leaper after the roll. Can finish fast His screen timing is perfect. He can reverse after screen and move towards the weak side of the opponent's defense. So he adds fluency to the offense. He does a good job making himself active for the pass with hands ready to catch the ball thanks to his footwork and IQ. Lack of consistent explosiveness. Improving shooter with smooth form. He has a consistent timing, arc and footwork with no major problems but should add some good choices and should try more three! Not very good around the post, decent handle for his size but not someone I would want to create in the halfcourt. Can dribble open court or after a rebound but he is not someone you want creating space with his handle. Solid passer and has good vision for the game.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He is good at closing the passing lines and following the roll man. Good footwork here. But sometimes he creates weakness by defending the handler where he has to follow the roll man. If he is defending ISO against 4 and 5 numbers, he makes good moves and steal thanks to his quick hand, eye-foot coordination and game knowledge. Ability to defend in space. But he is really bad when switch against other positions. He can’t balance like a boxer who fight 12 rounds against Joe Frazier. He opens his feet in parallel but cannot close the base. He has to work here. Should add some explosiveness to protect the rim.

Alperen Sengun

Team: Besiktas
Born: July 25, 2002
Position: C
Height: 6'9'’
Wingspan: 6'11'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

My favorite thing about his offense is finishing around the basket. In my opinion, Sengun is one of the smartest finishers of his generation. Even though he does not have much pop in the paint, Sengun has soft, smart and certain touch with either hand, can take contact and quick release. Also, easy roll option in the pick&roll and even though he doesn’t get up high for lobs/dunks, Sengun can finish them well thanks to his game reading hip mobility and soft touch. I think his finishing timing also good. It’s risky to buy him as a shooter but has shown promising flashes but still risky. Sets up spin moves, drop sets and fades with bumps on the defensive line with smartly and softly. I think Alperen knows how and when to use his physical tools and game reading skills around post-up. I mean, he uses his hip mobility around the post up but not too much. Usually, he try to push his opponent to the basket and after that he finish the position.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Sengun needs work all-around defense. However, there are some flashes for good things. AS knows the team defense. I think he does a nice job covering for his teammates if they are caught on a screen for a perimeter player going downhill or along the perimeter. This kid knows where the next rotation is along the perimeter to keep the cover. I think he does a good job rotating on the interior, though there are games where he may take a bad angle or is late to switch. He is a smart team defender but. He has not very active with hands tagging, helping, etc I mean not really big who makes plays out of his zone. I would like to see him keep his hands out a more for active perimeter defensive line. I think lack of athleticism and vertical pop hurts Sengun in terms of rim protection. He is a smart positional defender and knows how to use his length-wingspan but he is not a good rim protector because of lack of vertical pop, defensive energy/effort/motor and footwork.

Matthew Strazel

Team: ASVEL
Born: August 5, 2002
Position: PG
Height: 6'0’
Wingspan: 6'1'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Has a lot of room to improve physically. He has a great offensive package. He is creative, has the ability to change direction, can control the tempo, has intelligence in his passes and his handle is good. Strazel is a good finisher. Soft touch, pretty nice body control and flashes some craftiness around the rim. He can finish with either hand but it is not consistent. MS does not take contact that well around the rim. Strazel does a great job keeping the ball away/shielding the ball from his man on drives. He does not have much pop in the paint and jumps out more than up. Good shooter but should add some decision-making mechanism and a little bit faster loading time. Crafty passer. Strazel may not make elite reads, but he makes high level smart ones that put teammates in the best position to attack but I think he is not good PnR passer. He forced some passes.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

It is natural for a player who plays at the higher levels at the age of 17 and who has physically big cons to create great weakness in defense. However, I think Strazel is pretty good defender despite his lack of elite physical tools. Strazel solid PnR defender. He flashes pretty nice footwork at the top with two plant, three-step technique and is quick over when there is a slip or enough space. However, he is prone to relaxing at the point of offense when MS thinks the handler is about to attack, leading to driving or pocket pass lanes for the ballhandler. He is not a rim protector. He does impressive job getting through picks and getting back into the game, even when screened off slightly from his trailing position. However, sometimes he gets the fake fast. Not a good on closeouts. Needs work.

Ivan Perasovic

Team: Split
Born: April 23, 2002
Position: F
Height: 6'7’
Wingspan: 6'9'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Ivan Perasovic does a little bit of everything on the offensive end in my opinion. Despite has not any killer-weapon on his offensive arsenal, Perasovic is a different scorer for his age. He is excellent on flare, backdoor, V, shallow, deep and curl cuts to take his low-post position on off the ball motions. He starts position on right attack area, uses the cross/down screen, cuts to the left low-post, takes the ball uses drop step to the baseline or reverse spin to the flashy basket. Ivan Perasovic can stretch the floor with his shooting ability. He is not a good mid-range shooter, just spotting up on the left baseline, not middle or right usually. From the 3-points window, he can create his shots and can hit as a spot-up shooter. However, his shooting form is really unorthodox. Shot pocket is almost stuck to his forehead, his right hand is right at his head, his left hand is wide open and he grabs the ball from the edge and gives balance. This makes it difficult to block his shot but also hurts the release. Perasovic is not an inconsistent shooter, but the ball goes out sometimes very curved and sometimes very flat. If he can keep his left hand a little lower, he can give better momentum to the ball in my opinion. Everything is fine in his lower body, he can transfer energy from his hips, the parallelism between his knees and his feet is good, he also has a nice mini jump. Buying his shoot a little gamble but the best thing here is that Perasovic does not force the shot, almost use true shots every time. Briefly, versatile shooting potential, but yes, has room right now. (By the way, he is a better shooter in the left zone than right zone. Does not try shots in the middle. Ballhandling, passing, responsibility and pick-and-roll scoring. Ivan Perasovic has a lot of room to get improve on all these areas. He knows how to protect the ball and how to take steps to attack while going to the basket but has not any crafty, shifty and extra things. Just a normal dribbler, handler, also, passer. He is not even a good read-and-reacts passer. So he knows that and plays as a third ball handler (was the fourth ballhandler in Croatia NJT because of Roko Prkacins’s ballhandling ability).

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Ivan Perasovic is not a defensive playmaker and does not intense defense consistently. However, his team awareness, off the ball defense and closeouts make him a good defender in my opinion. His defensive skill-set is out of charts. Has not dozens of steals, blocks but he really can be a factor on the defensive end in my opinion. Good BBIQ, possesses good awareness. Not too many talks on defense but this is not a “has to” situation for him. Because he knows when and where to rotate, slide, help defense. Slides really well around the perimeter against fake screens. The Croatian prospect also does a good job tagging the cutter in help and getting back to his man later. The closeout defense is really good. Ivan Perasovic does pretty impressive things closing spacing on the shooter by using his length, vertical pop, active hands, BBIQ, timing and stop ability. I mean, when he runs for closeout, he can stop very well in front of the shooter and avoid the foul. Can rotate the hips, but sometimes biting on pump and burst fakes. He forces his man by pressuring the ball, can control the attacker and force him to expose the ball bu using his BBIQ. Needs work on the ball defense. He is better when defending on top of the key attacks. However, when the offense play against him from left or right zone, his efficiency on one-on-one defense is down. Probably the biggest reason here is his lack of quickness. I mean, the court’s space limits his zone. Plus, he can guard quicker players. He even can guard physical players thanks to his strength but cannot do it against shifty, crafty players.

Pavel Savkov

Team: ISB
Born: April 13, 2002
Position: SG
Height: 6'7’
Wingspan: 7'0'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Pavel Savkov makes his money as a shooter on the offensive end. He is an incredibly talented shooter, creates his own shot off the dribble, is a sharpshooter from distance, shows good flashes on knockdown 3-points, off the catch and off the dribble. Good creation on mid-range distance. Looks very comfortable shooting after one dribble or two dribbles around the baseline zones or off the hop. Not a big fan of his role as a ATO, BLOB or SLOB shooter. He is not a shooter who can make money in detailed offensive sets but good on CnS and spontaneous creation. Pure shooting form. Pavel Savkov looks very comfortable when he shoots the ball with his two motion shot mechanic. Body positioning is generally excellent in my opinion. He can position his knees and feet parallel to the line and to the basket. He bends his knees and hips simultaneously and at the right angle. He has a mini and nice jump, can coordinate his hips and kneecaps at the same time, consistent elbow points allow him fluidity, eyes on the target. But as I mentioned, lack of strength hurt his shooting form sometimes. Pavel Savkov is a smart shooter. While pump fake, he uses his BBIQ and timing well, while shooting as an open man, he observes his surroundings quickly as the ball comes to him and takes the shot. But Savkov sometimes gets too much tension in the match and uses unnecessary shots. Not all shots are wrong, but I think he should be a bit calmer. Pavel Savkov does not get to the basket often but is a solid finisher with soft touch when attacks. He can finishes with both hands with the style of inside hand. He is not a tight space or traffic finisher due to lack of strength and elite vertical pop. Savkov can change direction on the ground very well, and he usually changes his direction behind the line, usually goes to the left offensive zone but then turns to the right offensive zone quickly, and attacks to the basket. I think that Savkov should be able to do at least a little better as a self-creator when drives to the basket. I would like to see him more with a combination of burst, handle and aggressiveness.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Pavel Savkov’s BBIQ makes up for his lack of strength and elite athleticism package on the defensive end. He knows how to use his length and how to push the offense by using his body very well. Also, has pretty good team awareness. He can guard multiple positions thanks to his length but usually plays against point guards and shooting guards on the defensive end. In one-on-one situations, Savkov’s lower stance, quick hands and timing make him a good defender behind the 3-points line. He is not a defender who puts all the pressure on the ballhandlers. Also, he is not good at guarding live dribble situations, stays behind the shifty ballhandlers in one-on-one situations but when works come to the balanced, low tempo game, Savkov’s defensive efficiency increases. Hunter in the passing lanes, Savkov does not comes with a lot of steals or blocks to the table defensively but he does a lot of important off-the-charts jobs in my opinion. So, good deflection ability. Uses his wide wingspan very well in passing lanes. Smart, really smart off the ball defender. If his man has a shooting threat, he usually chases him closely, he fluid around the screens thanks to his quickness. But if his man is not a good shooter, he usually shoots the gap to avoid the possibility of screen fake. He sometimes looks asleep on the weak side, just watches the ball but not all the time. Not a rim protector but has shown flashes rotating from the downhill to under the basket to help his team’s main rim protectors.

Mojave King

Team: Carins
Born: June 11, 2002
Position: G
Height: 6'5'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Excellent size and frame to be NBA player. Strong. His shooting is my favorite part. In my opinion, he is a good, dynamic and versatile shooter all around. MK can shoot off the bounce very well. Good catch&shoot player. Also Tgood at movement shots I think. His shot form resembles Paul Pierce and Ersan Ilyasova. Especially when he lifted the ball from chest to head and from head to air. The timing very similar to Ersan Ilyasova’s shooting mechanics. Compact and consistent across all mediums. He has a respectable one-dribble pull-up in his repertoire which can be effective when King gets both feet planted and parallel. Deep range on C&S. King’s quick and smart set&release, good job relocating to make passes to him cleaner, great footwork, and ability to game reading (screen spot, chin line, etc.) make him a potentially effective off ball player going forward. Of course, he is also effective when it is a full spot up C&S. Not someone who will force shots he’s not supposed to take. He is not a quick decision maker, sometimes he cannot decide what to do. Happened several times in the games (ex: Ibou Badji’s block). , For NBA standards, this problem can turn into a big minus. He has to be self-confident. Solid finisher overall, but needs some improvement here. King can finish with both hands with a soft touch. MK is a good finisher in traffic. Nice job using the threat of his C&S 3 to open up rip through attacks. As I said, he is good at finishing in traffic. But sometimes he forgets his size pluses against classic G and plays very softly. When he does it several times, he loses his rhythm in the match. Solid handler and passer but should add more tricks here and has to be consistent on his shooting to be good NBA player overall.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

He can defend guards, small forwards and stretch power forwards. I’m not a fan of his perimeter defense. MK shows flashes but not great on the perimeter. He has quick feet but gives up ease dribbles to the basket sometimes. He is prone to biting on pump fakes and giving up arc to drive/closing too much. He does a good job at playing on man and trying to block PnR. When he does go under, he has great recoverability and does pretty nice things getting back to the shooter to contest the shot thanks to his footwork and size. But he has difficulty controlling against fast and handler guards.

Abramo Canka

Team: Nevezis

Born: March 7, 2002
Position: G-F
Height: 6'6’
Wingspan: 6'9'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Abramo Canka is a scored first and an adequate ballhandler. Canka does much of his best work on the offensive end as a one-on-one and around the basket finisher. Lack of elite soft touch but solid and smart touch work. Can finish both hands at the rim but usually uses his right. Strong, very strong step which allows him a change direction ability on the ground. Nice hop before jumping off of one foot (he also jumping off of two feet and can absorb the contact, can finish with using snake skill-set but not consistent) thanks to his almost elite body coordination. He usually finds his buckets around the basket or as a slasher, from right-wing or top of the key. He dribbles from these areas usually. He is not an elite smart finisher but has some tricks here. Has constant speed changed to control the pace. So, he dribbles the ball fast-low-fast and breaks his opponent’s mind, opponent’s defensive line after that goes to the basket, gets in from of the defender (so doing with this, he protect the ball and close his opponent’s shot blocking angle), jump and finish with using the glass smartly. Limited pop in the paint in traffic but as I said, showed some promising flashes. Lack of elite upper body strength and elite last touch hurt his finishing skill-set. Also, sometimes he forces the game but overall, unselfish, talented and smart finisher in my opinion. Very quick in transition situations both on the ball or off the ball player. A capable driver, Canka has not a crafty or shifty dribble the ball skill-set in the half-court. But when things come to spontaneous, out of action things, Canka’s quickness, deceptive ballhandling ability make him a great player. However, the game is not always run out of motions, so needs improve here. Off the ball motions: Good in my opinion. He knows how, when and where to where cuts as an off the ball scorer or pass to assist player. He reads his teammates’ movement, reacts well (uses his burst and body fakes very well like JJ Redick) and if he sees a good space after taking the ball, he dribbles to the basket, but if there is no space he knows how to pull the defenders on him and create space for his teammates. As a shooter in off the ball motions showed some spot-up shooting flashes but inconsistent. His shooting form looks solid, nice set-up on feet, good angle on knee, nice shot pocket (eye test: parallel to shoulders and a little bit above the rim) and good pop. However, I think AB has room to polish his shooting stroke because the ball doesn’t come out smoothly on his 3-points shots every time and also generally, he doesn’t transfer energy from his hips to his shooting form, uses his upper body but as I said, his upper body is not strong yet. Last not on his shooting ability. Canka is not a shooter who has the ability hesitation dribble, stop on a dime, attack left/right, pull up or give pass but his smart shooting choices and some flashes on catch-the-ball are promising. Good, very good passer. Not a crafty passer like Arturs Zagars or Leandro Bolmaro, but when he takes defenders on him, he gives the ball open man quickly. Also, he showed a lot of things on pocket, drive-and-dish skill-set. I think his scoring first mentality gives him a “forcing the game” identity sometimes, he is an unselfish player but really needs some balance.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Based on what I’ve seen from Abramo Canka so far, his defense is way ahead of his offense in my opinion. A pesky defender knows how to use his great length to make intense defense on his opponents, really, totally focused and active defender. He slides laterally to cut off the ballhandler, absorbing contact on ISO situations. Also, his one hand is always up and his other hand is down, so, he avoids foul easily. Solid stance, turns hips and back square to contest his opponent’s situation. If his man change direction, two feet hop and hip rotate help him here. By pressure the ball, Abramo Canka can really control his man’s offensive vision and force him to expose the ball with smartly around the perimeter. But things aren’t always good on the defensive end for him when the game comes around from the perimeter to the basket. Since Canka does not have elite lateral and upper strength, he cannot defend stronger players in motion. But players who are faster than him can defend them thanks to his stance movement — low to high or high to low, quick and has great timing. Also, his active hands and great body coordination help him here. An aggressive, high-level motor defender, Abramo Canka has good team awareness on the defensive and. I think he has the potential to be a defensive playmaker at high-levels. Because he reads game very well, has great defensive BBIQ, nice positional defender, doing impressive things being right place on the court, keeps hand out taking away passing lanes when he’s off the ball in help. Also, the Italian prospect does a good job following his man around the screens, tagging the cutter in help and then getting back to his matchup but sometimes gambles too much around the baseline and under the basket. Showed great rotating down but his high gaming excitement, willingness to do anything, and his lack of experience cause him to do the wrong help defense. He can overhelp despite his man waiting on the strong side… Needs some balance and clearly needs experience.

Noam Dovrat

Team: Rishon
Born: July 16, 2002
Position: SG
Height: 6'5’
Wingspan: 6'7'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Despite hitting a lot of 3-pointers at FIBA events, Noam Dovrat does much of his best work on the offensive end as an attack the basket player. Especially last season (2019–2020), as he played with a point guard with high gravity effect, Alex Hamilton, Dovrat had a lot of space to attack the rim and he made good use of these areas. The right-handed Dovrat, does a nice job using change of tempo to get his defender off balance and attack the basket. With solid touch around the rim, Noam Dovrat is not a prospect who can hit a lot of runners but he does a great job to find points with using the glass. Dovrat’s strong first step, good hip rotate, chest to chest fight and change direction ability on the ground make up for his athleticism. Dovrat has good pop in the paint, also, he knows how to use a pump fake to get his defender in the air and create his angle. Not a player to force the game, but sometimes using unnecessary floaters. He has burst but not elite, just average in my opinion. His finishing and attacking the basket ability, could be better from the top of the key and right-wing (also uses the right screen, shoulder to shoulder better than the left screen, over shoulder) better than other zones. Dovrat also has give and go ability. Shooting is the most complicated thing on his offensive arsenal for me. I have a very simple reason: At FIBA events, Dovrat used a lot of threes and his percentages were not bad. However, in Israeli BSL and EuroCup both his volume and percentages were bad. So, I have serious issues about trusting his shot but he has potential. Because he showed that creating off the dribble, shooting off the catch. Average handle the ball ability. Has not any shifty things like deceptive/crafty/defensive/advanced/flashy ballhandling ability but he has not turnover prone. Creating his dribble channel thanks to his burst and change the tempo abilities, Noam Dovrat has enough skills to protect the ball in these free zones. Just like classical European guards. The biggest improvement area on his offensive arsenal is that off the ball motions. If Dovrat playing around the corners, okay, that’s it, he will wait all 24 seconds without moves. He looks like asleep in these positions.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

Doing nice close outs, Noam Dovrat doesn’t have perfect quickness, lateral movement and pop but he is able to recover thanks to his good positioning on off ball motions. He does a good job running around screens and back into the play. The Israeli prospect does not make unnecessary help defenses and continues his off ball defense without leaving his man open, so if he needs to make a move for closeouts he can make it without breaking his team’s defense. Dovrat raises one hand in front of the shooters while holding the other down, to avoid a foul. He sometimes has a problem with agility against his opponent’s quick footwork, but thanks to his active hand coordination and good court vision he can make up for this. He can also react perfectly against shooters. It’s hard to say that Dovrat is an excellent ISO defender, but despite his lack of athleticism, he has a nice pace, good anticipation ability, and the ability to exploit his opponent’s position with low stance. In other words, Dovrat keeps his body lower than his opponent’s body and prevents his opponent from dribbling quickly. If the attacker (ballhandler) gets an angle to dribble, he generally does a good job getting back in the play. But sometimes he gives space from top of the key to under the basket as he defends his opponent very closely. Although Dovrat has a good lower stance, he can’t guard shifty ballhandlers in these situations.

Yannick Kraag

Team: Prat
Born: October 16, 2002
Position: G/F
Height: 6'7’
Wingspan: 6'9'’

OFFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

An instinctual scorer who is aggressive looking to find ways to make things happen, Yannick Kraag’s offensive game is predicated on his ability to use his quickness with the ball to use wings channel, play as a cutter and force opponents to leave a cushion that gives him extra attack zone to get his shot off around the perimeter. At the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship and 2018 FIBA U16 European Championship, his main scoring weapon was off-ball motions. In these two tournaments, he scored 48 points while playing as an off-ball player with 75% FG. In doing so, Kraag made excellent use of drives from the wings. He created a weakness on the opponent’s defenses with his burst and go-stop-go-stop techniques. The Dutchman used his teammate’s screens well off the ball. When picked up the ball, Kraag finishes possessions sometimes after one-two dribble in three to four seconds, sometimes with a quick dunk or fluid athleticism. Running in transition well, Yannick Kraag can dribble open court and finishes positions with quickness. Also, he’s a good dribbler on half-court as a secondary ballhandler. However, I think he has room to work on his handling & passing package and general on-ball offense. Kraag isn’t a bad handler or passer, but his passing and handling abilities are too casual. He can’t play as a handler or roller in pick-and-roll games. He needs weapons on his arsenal to improve his offensive game. Shooting is a huge question mark… Yannick Kraag is a cold-blooded player. He has the mentality to shoot against pressure. He reads the game and makes a decision to use his shot. Kraag can create his shots in mid-range. He also has nice extension and release making it difficult for most players to contest or block his shot but his mechanics are inconsistent and not too smooth.

DEFENSIVE SYNOPSIS

The lack of elite strength and athleticism hurts his defensive stock. He needs to work on his overall defensive performance but, there are some good signs. Showing good reaction on the ball defensively, Kraag does a pretty nice job putting pressure on shooters. I think he isn’t a pesky defender in general but with his closeouts and eye-hand coordination, he is a decent pesky defender. Kraag knows how to give bad angles to his opponent’s thanks to his BBIQ, lateral movement and body control. Showing a good stance, he is an aggressive defender and you can see his aggressiveness last summer. However, that’s it. I think he needs to improve the rest of his defensive game. He has a great vertical pop but doesn’t use this to protect the rim consistently. He reads screens well but doesn’t run well around screens. Not switchable, not running through passing lanes well, has the ability to get steals on the ball on defense thanks to his quick hands and stance but he is not a deflection player; I think he needs a TON of work on his defense.
